At 35 bucks a pound, that is a lot of ammo cheap. A bunch of black powder or pyrodex and percussion caps will yield a LOT of muzzle loading fire...

and I haven't even mentioned balls, miniballs, or buckshot yet!
Time to get up, you're not dead yet...

I got my Scout Rifle this week. She's a beauty.

Picked up a Taurus 66 6 inch barrel last week for an absolute steal of a price. Bought several speed loaders and loaded some hot rounds for it last weekend.
.357 sure knocks the hell out of me but I can sure as hell trust my life to the thing.
And on the 8th day, God looked down on his planned paradise, and said "I need a caretaker."
So God made a farmer.

My first rifle was a discontinued Savage bolt gun so this was a bit nostalgic and I was impressed with the new rifles.
For those not familiar with the Scout concept it was developed by Jeff Cooper as "The rifle you would want if you could only have one rifle." Chambered in .308/7.62x51 it delivered solid, accurate fire at 50-100 yards, the 200 yard lane was occupied the whole time I was there but after trying it out later on the 200 which is as far as my local range goes, I was able to consistently shoot tight groups with iron sights. Once I get an optic on it I intend to push it out as far as I can. I know for sure I can shoot out to at least 800m, so that's my goal.

There is a lot to be said for a light handy rifle.
My 700 with the specialized stock weighed in at about two tons.

I was able to get it into the bush with a buddy of mine down in Southern Arkansas a few weeks ago, I can do irons at about 400 yds no problem and it is handy. We did some cover and move drills and stuff, all in all, even though it's slightly long and slightly heavy to meet Cooper's requirements, it makes up for it in accuracy and general ergonomics.

I've also gotten some kinks worked out in my pistol marksmanship in the last couple weeks.

I'm glad it is working out for you.

I recently built a couple of small AR's.
Hoping to function test them in the next couple of days.
