Life straws. I have been testing them when hiking, hunting and fishing and am extremely impressed. You can get em' on Amazon for $19 a pop.

Hey Shelby
Can you use iodine itself to sterilize water?

I don't think I'd want to put it in my water. Can you even find it anymore? I remember my mother putting it on cuts when I was a kid. Oh, the burn!!

I don't know, Bob. I did some digging, but didn't get anything conclusive. Personally, I wouldn't use it for purification because it is an organomercuric salt, and I imagine that it could deposit and lead to heavy metal poisoning like other mercuric compounds. Do you still have some? It hasn't really been manufactured in the US since 98' or so, when the FDA classified it as 'untested'

Socks. You need dry socks. You'll never know how much you need dry socks until your feet are saturated with dirty water.

Probably one of the most essential items for anybody actually.

ThorLo socks. Always keeps feet dry. About $10 a pair, I wear nothing else anymore.
