Went to Academy sports last night they didn't have a single box of .44 magnum but they had a shit ton of .45 acp hell they even had a pretty decent amount of .45 LC which I don't see often.I asked if they had any .44 magnum in stock and the guy behind the counter said they cant keep it and it literaly is gone as they stock it which surprised me I didn't think .44 magnum was that popular still.

personally for me a 44 is to much, though I would love automag imagine you bought your automag in the 1970s for $217.50, they now sell for more than $3000

Is this one what you are referring to SoB?

I think they came out with a few different versions in various companies, interchangeable barrels too. Always liked the idea, you have a pretty good eye for some cool stuff SoB! 8-)

True enough that is a substantial increase but it is peanuts compared to a select fire AR.
A converted civilian AR could be had for about $500 now a Colt would easily go for over $10K
The cheapest I have heard of was $3000 for a re-weld receiver.

Dad had an Automag, briefly, in the mid '80s...
Thing never really functioned all that well.
If I wanted a .44 mag pistol, I'd probably just go with a 629.
I'd love to find one of those Ruger "Deerstalker" carbines from the '60s though...

The short answere is that, depending on what ammo your using, the mag has 2 to 3 times more energy and 2 to 3 times less fall in trajectory than the special. The mag is a decent hunting revolver while the special is lots of fun to shoot. So get the best of both worlds by purchasing a 44 mag revolver because you can shoot both mag and special ammo in it. You can only shoot special ammo in a 44 special revolver.

44 Special does not beat you or the gun up.
Had a friend who shot what he called "Cowboy Loads" they were very mild magnums.
More than special but a lot less than full bore magnums.
Seeing this thread brought back to the surface almost makes me want to dust off my 629.

I know the feeling. Makes me want to load some mild rounds for mine. All I have on hand are rounds for big bitey scratchy things with four legs.

Got some magnum loads yesterday and went shooting with some friends. We went to an indoor range I took my Ruger Blackhawk, Rossi m92 and Ruger SR40. We had a blast busy brought his Ruger sr9c my brother in law and neighbor went with us. We shot alot had fun. Me and my buddy had a competition to see who was better with the m92 he won today.
