KN

Exactly right! That was well put, an advantageous position.
Too many of the thugs think they are the next big MMA fighter.
The law of large numbers says you can't win every time and you do not want to wind up in a submission hold or even worse choked out.
Getting old sucks too I have a friend who is a cop and excelled at the grappling when we were young who now avoids it at all costs.

My other train of thought on that is that you never know if the aggressor has friends. Last thing I want is to end up on the ground and start getting kicked in the face (again) by his buddies.

I was at the gym the other day and saw a young man doing dumb bell flys with 60 pound dumbbells.
Hell I can't even curl one of them.

I work out with 180 pounds on a Fly Machine but there is mechanical advantage there.
It's like doing bench presses on a Smith Machine.
I could really impress someone who did not know what I was doing on a Smith machine as compared to benching with a straight bar.

I benched 300 exactly once. Two weeks later, had a full rupture of my pectoralis major tendon. Haven't put up more than 145 since.

Dude that sucks.
Forgive my being unsure, you are sticking with 145 to be safe right?
I don't know what my one rep max is because if I injure myself I am afraid that will be that, at my age we don't heal very fast if at all.

If they keep building fast food places they are doing their part in my master plan.
As other older guys get fatter and less fit they are improving my odds.

I'm finally back at a 225 squat after I dislocated my hip in Afghanistan.

Nice
Dislocations can be tough.
Did you have any tendon damage?

No, I lucked out there, unlike with my left shoulder which I dislocated years before that in a Jujitsu tournament.
